About US

Christ The King Village is a nonprofit organization that provides shelter for children living in social orphanhood. This is understood as children who live like orphans even though one or both of their parents are alive but will not or cannot take care of them due to reasons such as physical and emotional abuse, substance abuse, neglect, poverty, physical and psychological problems on their part, unwanted pregnancy and child, among others. These family members are not willing to care for them, but are unwilling to give them up for adoption.

We provide children with a new opportunity to experience family life. Once they are accepted, they are integrated into one of our eight houses, where they are cared and looked after by young ladies that will be their maternal figure during their upbringing. In the houses, you can find from 4 to 10 kids, avoiding age repetition, as it would be in a natural family setting. We hope to provide our children with a middle-class family life and the opportunity of an education they require.

At the time of entry, we accept children up to the age of 6, since it is difficult to accomplish successful integration after that age. The acceptance criteria is as follows:

  • Children in dire need to live with us because their physical, emotional, moral or psychological well-being is in danger, the parents are physically, emotionally or in any other way impaired and unable to care for them, or are deprived of their freedom.
  • Children must not have any mental or physical disabilities that prevent them from taking care of themselves or need any specialized treatment as we are unable to provide such care because of lack of infrastructure.

The Children at THE VILLAGE

Our 60 boys and girls lead a normal life. They get up in the morning a little before 6am to clean themselves up and have breakfast.

The majority will then be off to school. Some are transported in a van (property of The Village) with Uncle Bruno who is their father figure. Others will walk or take the bus.

Another small group attends school in the afternoon. They are driven at noon by Uncle Bruno who takes advantage of the trip to pick up those who were left at school in the morning.

After lunch, the older kids do their laundry and then go to a room used for study to work on their homework until 5pm after which they can go to play in the Village’s patio.

In the evening, they have dinner in their houses until 9pm, then it’s lights out so they can have their good night’s sleep.

Saturday morning, cooperative work! Everyone pitches in to help clean the Village: sweeping, mopping, gardening….

In the afternoon, after the Rosary prayer, there is time for play in the patio. Maybe a trip to a pool or they watch a movie.

Sundays we have morning mass, time for play in the patio in the afternoon, movies, etc.

The children’s families visit once a month (those who have family).
